How Do Quooker Taps Work?

Quooker tap

At The White Kitchen Company, we love Quooker Taps and regularly recommend them to our customers who want to be rid of their kettles to make way for a modern, space-saving alternative. With a boiling water tap, you never need to wait for water to boil, saving you time on the days you need it most. They also help to prevent wastage of water and, with cool sparkling and filtered water, it also saves plastic water bottles!

As it is still a relatively new invention, the most common question we get asked is ‘How do Quooker taps work?’. In this blog post we will explain all of the finer details simply so that by the time you have finished reading, you shall be a Quooker expert!

High-Vacuum Insulation

The Quooker system consists of a small tank in the kitchen cupboard that is linked to the boiling water tap. The tank acts like a vacuum flask connected to your water system and the air here, which is in the insulated wall, is so thin that the heat cannot escape. This means that only a small amount of energy is needed to keep the water at 110°C in this tank.

The water only starts to boil when the tap is turned on and the temperature of the outflowing water then drops to 100°C ready for your cup of tea! To simplify it further, it works in a feedback loop system whereby when you use the tap, more water flows into this tank ready to be heated up ahead of its next use.

So, you may be wondering if this means that your bills will shoot through the roof. Well don’t fear, the standby power consumption is as little as 3p a day, so you don’t have to worry about this at all.

The Quooker Cube works by providing you with cool filtered and sparkling water and is installed beside the boiling water tank in your kitchen cabinet. The cube contains a hollow fibre filter that purifies the water, as well as a Quooker Co2 cylinder that attaches to your tank to give you sixty litres of chilled sparkling water to enjoy at any time.
