Innisfree House

Project

The kitchen in this Edwardian house no longer worked for the way the family lives, so we put together a plan that placed storage where it was needed, kept surfaces clear and opened the space to the garden.

During their showroom visit, the homeowners compared our cabinetry styles and looked at the hardware in person. They chose our Shaker collection for its proportions, which suited the style of the house. The scheme uses three cabinet colours. Sage Green by Little Greene was chosen for the main kitchen and the bootility. Arras by Little Greene, a deep earthy red, sets the drinks area apart as its own zone. Slipper Satin by Farrow & Ball, a soft off-white, was used on the reeded-glass cabinets and coffee nook. This lighter tone breaks up the run without stepping away from the overall palette.

A custom oak island sits at the centre of the room. The idea began with a conversation about Lanhydrock House in Cornwall, where the family had seen a large working table in the historic kitchen. At first, they hoped to include a freestanding table here too, but it became clear it wouldn’t offer the storage they needed. We worked with them to rework the idea. After a number of design rounds, the final dark-stained oak island was made in our UK workshops, shaped to fit the room. It brings in storage, feels like a piece of furniture, and naturally draws people in.

Reeded-glass wall cupboards, a curved cornice and CRL Verona quartz worktops with varied edge profiles add texture throughout. Hendel & Hendel Greenwich handles and York shelf brackets, in a mix of dark brushed and burnished brass, are used with antique brass hinges. The metal finishes keep a consistent look across the space.

A drinks area with a wine fridge sits in its own alcove. The coffee nook, set into a separate recess, adds rhythm to daily routines. The bootility, painted to match the main kitchen, offers useful storage just off the room and ties the layout together.

Storage is placed where it’s needed, the surfaces are kept clear, and the flow between kitchen and garden feels easy. The result is a space that fits the family’s day-to-day life and is built to last.
