Cabinet Construction

How we build your furniture

The solid wood cabinetry we build is traditional in-frame, where the doors and drawer fronts sit within a surrounding frame for strength and classic proportion.

Frames & doors: Solid beech — a strong, smooth hardwood that takes paint beautifully and stands up well to everyday use.

Carcasses: Solid Paulownia, a responsibly sourced hardwood with exceptional ecological credentials. Paulownia has minimal tannins, which help prevent black marks caused by moisture (a common issue with oak). It maintains its pale tone, without shifting to yellow or orange as oak can over time.

Drawers: Solid oak, dovetailed front and back, running on Blum fully extending soft-close runners.

Door panels: Are made in poplar — sustainable, stable, and perfect for painting — solid wood, not MDF!

One-piece, traditionally built: Our cabinets are crafted in the workshop as a complete unit, not flat-packed and assembled. Unlike most companies, we do not omit the top of the cabinet just because it’s hidden under the worktop. It’s how we guarantee long-term strength and stability.

Hardware: Solid brass traditional butt hinges that last a lifetime. Plus hidden powerful concealed magnets set into the frame of your door for a clean, satisfying close.

We handcraft every order — whether you choose from our catalogue, need bespoke sizing, or want something completely custom. From design to delivery, it can be as little as 10–12 weeks.

Read our customer reviews to see why our cabinetry is renowned for exceptional craftsmanship and built to stand the test of time.

    Finishing

DSCF0046 Enhanced NR 3

The interior of our cabinets is made using Paulownia hardwood, finished with a durable, wipeable lacquer. Unlike oak, it won’t yellow or blacken with time or moisture, retaining its pale blonde tone. No on-site oiling or painting is needed, ensuring a clean, low-maintenance finish from day one.

All cabinets are available in Oak, or finished in either a high-quality undercoat (ready for you to paint) or a specialist, durable cabinet paint. Painted finishes can be matched to any Farrow & Ball or Little Greene colour—or a bespoke colour of your choice for a small charge.
