Cabinet Style Guide
Your guide to kitchen cabinet styles
The design of a kitchen is complex. While there are many minor items in your kitchen to note, don’t ignore a sizeable portion of the space – your kitchen cabinets. When every kitchen company claims to be the best provider of handmade, bespoke kitchens, which do you choose, and which one is best for your budget? Before you make the important decision to install new cabinets, be certain that you’re mindful of the many types of cabinet styles and quality. Here, we tell you more about the styles and variations of each design.

TRADITIONALLY HUNG
In-Frame
All our doors are hung in-frame, meaning they are positioned inside a frame rather than on the outside, which can lead to sagging over time. This style imparts a distinctive and classic appearance to the kitchen. In-frame cabinets are renowned for their robustness and longevity, making them the preferred choice for those seeking a traditional and elegant kitchen design. They are often associated with high-quality craftsmanship and are our top choice for bespoke kitchen designs.
SIMPLE SQUARE EDGE
Shaker
Shaker kitchens refer to a traditional style of furniture design, characterised by its simplicity and functional design. Our Shaker style features a simple five-piece drawer front with a recessed centre panel, along with a plain top drawer. You also have the option of choosing all plain drawer fronts. All our drawers are made from solid oak and are dovetailed.

Our Shaker cabinets are made with a five-piece door featuring a recessed hardwood centre panel—a straightforward design with minimal detailing. This same approach carries through to our cornice and skirting. The Shaker style is known for its timeless appeal and works well with a wide range of kitchen designs, from traditional to modern.
BEAD & THUMB MOULDING
Period English
Bringing together timeless design and the finest craftsmanship, the Period English collection is defined by a classic thumb mould around the panelled doors and drawer fronts, along with a simple cock bead running along the top and bottom edges of the top drawers. Traditional techniques, such as solid oak dovetail drawers, add strength and reinforce the authenticity of our handmade units.

Our Period English design is finished off with a more detailed cornice and skirting, adding extra character to the kitchen. Traditional techniques like mortise and tenon joints and solid steel butt hinges are used throughout, giving the cabinets a rich, traditional look that adds warmth and style to any space.
FLAT FRONTED WITH HANDLES
Fusion
Our flat-fronted Fusion range is a transitional style between our modern, slab-fronted kitchens and our traditional Shaker and Period English styles. By effortlessly blending the flat fronts with handles, our designs explore clean lines and bold blocks of colour whilst keeping the same, high quality of all our bespoke furniture.

Although it has a more modern look, the doors are still hung traditionally in-frame within the hardwood carcasses. This style features a simple inset kickboard and can be finished with either a basic short cornice on top or a scribed edge that fits into the ceiling for a cleaner, more streamlined appearance.
INSPIRED BY HISTORY
English Heritage
Our drawers are crafted from solid oak with dovetail joints on all four corners for strength and durability. Each front is framed with traditional cock-beading and finished with a raised and fielded panel for a classic, period feel.

Our cabinet doors are made from FSC-certified hardwood using a five-piece construction with mortise-and-tenon joints. A slim frame with subtle cock-beading surrounds the centre panel, echoing the drawer style. The design is completed with a deep, stepped cornice and detailed skirting, adding an architectural finish that sets this range apart.
SIMPLE & HANDLELESS
Modern
Our flat-fronted (or slab-front) kitchen cabinets bring a modern touch to our collection. The handleless drawers are made from solid oak and crafted with traditional dovetail joints for strength and smooth soft-closing action. They’re finished in a low-sheen eggshell paint available in over 300 colours, combining durability with style. Our signature natural oak detailing adds warmth and character to the drawers.

The cabinet frames are built using hardwood timber, and designed to last a lifetime. We use oak not just for the exterior trim but also for the kickboards and top cabinets, creating a seamless, high-quality look throughout. The oak is finished with a low-sheen lacquer that highlights its natural beauty while providing protection. The kitchen units are completed with a modern short crown for a clean, simple finish.
