Innisfree House

Project

The kitchen in this Edwardian house no longer worked for the way the family lives. We put together a plan that placed storage where it was needed, kept surfaces clear, and opened the space up to the garden.

The homeowners visited our showroom to compare cabinetry styles and see the hardware in person, and chose our Shaker collection for its proportions. The clean lines suited the character of the house without trying to compete with it. The scheme uses three cabinet colours. Sage Green by Little Greene was chosen for the main kitchen and the bootility. Arras by Little Greene, a deep earthy red, sets the drinks area apart as its own zone, with a wine fridge tucked into its own alcove and dark oak shelving above on brass brackets. Slipper Satin by Farrow & Ball, a soft off-white, was used on the reeded-glass cabinets and coffee nook. The lighter tone breaks up the run while staying within the overall palette, and the two spaces add a quiet rhythm to daily routines.

A custom oak island sits at the centre of the room. The idea started with a conversation about Lanhydrock House in Cornwall, where the family had seen a large working table in the historic kitchen. They initially hoped to include a freestanding table, but it became clear it wouldn’t offer the storage they needed. We worked through a number of design rounds with them, and the final piece, a dark-stained oak island with curved ends, was built in our UK workshops and shaped to fit the room. It brings in storage, feels like a piece of furniture, and naturally draws people in.

Reeded-glass wall cupboards, a curved cornice, and CRL Verona quartz worktops with varied edge profiles add texture and detail throughout. Hendel & Hendel Greenwich handles and York shelf brackets in a mix of dark brushed and burnished brass are paired with antique brass hinges, keeping the metal finishes consistent across the space.

Storage is where it needs to be, the surfaces stay clear, and the flow between kitchen and garden feels easy. It is a space that fits around the family’s day-to-day life and is built to last.
