Behind the Scenes at The White Kitchen Company

Welcome to “Meet the Makers,” our latest feature that delves into the lives of the people who make The White Kitchen Company what it is. We aim to spotlight an individual from our talented team, giving you a glimpse into the craftsmanship and dedication behind every kitchen we create.

A Day with Our Kitchen Fitter: George

This month, we sit down with George, one of our seasoned kitchen fitters, who walks us through a typical day on the job, detailing the precision and expertise involved in fitting a bespoke White Kitchen from start to finish.

Morning Prep

“The day starts early,” George explains, highlighting the importance of initial setup. “Before we even arrive, the client needs to have their old kitchen removed, and all plumbing and electrical work should be completed. This sets the stage for us to work efficiently.”

Delivery and Unpacking

“As soon as we arrive, we take delivery of the cabinetry and appliances. It’s crucial to handle each piece carefully to avoid any damage. My team and I then begin unpacking and organising components based on the installation plan.”

Measuring and Cutting

“Each kitchen is unique, so precise measurements are key. We cut panels, scribe pieces, and trim mouldings on-site. This ensures everything fits perfectly to the room’s dimensions, even if walls aren’t perfectly straight—which they often aren’t.”

Fitting and Positioning

“The bulk of our day is spent fitting cabinets and positioning appliances. We make sure each cabinet is perfectly aligned and secure. Appliances are placed but not connected; we position them so that the client’s plumber and electrician can easily hook them up later.”

Challenges and Problem-Solving

“Sometimes we face challenges, like uneven floors or walls. This requires on-the-spot problem-solving to make sure everything looks flawless and functions well. It’s part of what makes the job interesting,” George notes.

Final Touches and Review

“Towards the end of the installation, we do a final walkthrough. This includes adjusting doors, aligning drawers, and touching up any paint. We use spare paint supplied by The White Kitchen Company to make everything look seamless.”

Reflections on the Role

“It’s a rewarding job,” George reflects. “Seeing the transformation from an empty space to a beautifully finished kitchen is incredible. And knowing that everything is installed correctly gives both us and the client peace of mind.”
