Spur Cottage

Project

During the renovation and extension of their early-Edwardian cottage, the owners visited our Northamptonshire showroom twice to finalise a kitchen that would feel true to the character of the house while supporting family life. They chose our Period English collection, working closely with designer Holly to plan a layout around an island that now anchors the space.

The kitchen is painted in Farrow & Ball Inchyra Blue, a rich blue-grey with a subtle green undertone that shifts gently in different light. Brass hardware and ogee cornicing add to the traditional feel. A decorative canopy frames the hob, and a built-in bench creates a softer edge between the kitchen and dining area.

Storage was central to the brief. Two pantry zones with oak interiors now hold everyday food essentials. “They’re my favourite part of the kitchen – super useful for all my food storage,” the owner told us.

Only after the layout was resolved did we begin refining the finishes. Silestone Ethereal Glow was chosen for the main run, while the island is topped in Dekton Entzo, offering a shift in tone and texture without feeling separate.

“We extended and fully renovated the whole cottage from top to bottom,” the owner said. “The showroom was fantastic – I just fell in love with the Period English kitchen design, style and colour.”

As we often see, the island has become the centre of family life. “We love how the kitchen is now the hub of the home. We use the island for our meals all the time.”
