Maximise your Space: Tips For Small Kitchen Design

small kitchen

We understand that not all of us have a large amount of space to work within our kitchens, but that doesn’t mean you can’t turn heads at your next dinner party. With these tips for a small kitchen design, you are guaranteed to make the most of your space and wow your dinner guests- don’t let your small space limit your large ideas.

Light

The first small kitchen idea is to add light. Whether your kitchen is blessed with a cloak of natural light or not, all rooms will look larger and more spacious if they are well-lit. If you’re not lucky enough to have a large amount of natural light, choose artificial lights which light your kitchen well. In addition, having a small kitchen doesn’t mean you can’t make a large statement, choose low-hanging lights like chandeliers to add that much-needed wow factor to your space.

Choose Light Colours

Similarly, one of the most effective ideas for a small kitchen is to choose colours very carefully. Medium shades can make any room appear smaller and more cramped, so we advise using bright whites or dark colours on your walls to give the room depth and the illusion of a larger space. As well as this, opt for a light worktop material such as elegant marble or porcelain stone effect tiles to open up your space and make it look much lighter and airer.

Multi-Purpose Island

If you have a small kitchen, having an island is a great idea. Yes, we understand it takes up space in your kitchen but kitchen islands present a variety of purposes. They allow for storage, grant a space for seating and eating, as well as a spot for you to place your appliances. So although they do take up space, they maximise your small kitchen space well.

Be Rid of Clutter

Having cabinets in your kitchen is standard. If you have a small kitchen, however, you should ensure that these are well organised to make the most of this storage space. When you lack space, you can’t afford to waste any of it, so consider stocking up on risers, lid organisers, spice racks and so on. Worktops are also prime places for collecting clutter, so make an effort to regularly tidy up your space!

Or, if it is pots and pans that are the main culprits occupying this space why not install a hanging pot rack? Features like these not only use up space that is otherwise redundant, but more importantly, it frees up storage space inside your cabinets. It’s a win-win!

Utilise your Corners In Your Mini Kitchen

Utilise every nook and cranny your kitchen has. This creates the perfect opportunity for you to get savvy with your design solutions. Therefore, we suggest installing corner cabinets for storage or installing a corner sink to allow for the rest of the worktop space to be used for preparing food. Simple small kitchen ideas like this make the world of difference!
