Built in 1820 as the home farm for the Hesketh Estate, the house has recently been carefully renovated to suit the way the owners live now, while keeping hold of its original feel. When it came to the kitchen, they returned to us after we had completed joinery elsewhere in the house. A visit to our showroom helped confirm their choice of our Period English cabinetry for its fit with the building.

The cabinetry is painted in Statue from our Heritage collection, Colours from History, with chrome hinges and an ogee cornice. The worktops are Quartzite Taj Mahal, supplied through us and finished with detailed edgework. Hardware throughout is by Armac Martin: Bakes knobs and handles, Cotswold cup pulls and latches, all in polished nickel plate.

A large island sits at the centre of the layout, with integrated appliances also supplied through us. Partway through the build, an issue with the water feed meant the dishwashers had to be moved. The cabinetry was adjusted on-site without affecting the design.

Two made-to-measure cupboards sit on either side of an existing alcove, designed to feel part of the room. In the adjoining utility, we installed solid oak cabinetry to give the space a distinct feel while maintaining the focus on natural materials.

The finished kitchen is practical and well-matched to the house. The island has become the most used part of the room – central to cooking, conversation and daily routines – bringing everything together without taking over the space.
